Microsoft HoloLens ushers in the future of smart glasses

Smart glasses are definitely a piece of wearable technology that is catching on, with different hardware manufacturers giving it a go. Google has been the highest profile one of them all, although it is with a rather sad tone that we hear how Google is no longer going to offer their Google Glass wearable tech to the masses. I guess it has yet to achieve a critical mass in the number of consumers who are willing to get a pair in order to be cost effective. Well, Microsoft might be able to build on Google Glass’ ashes here with the recently unveiled Microsoft HoloLens.

The Microsoft HoloLens would peer more into the future with the intention of transforming your world using holograms. Microsoft sees a world where technology could become more personal, allowing it to adapt to the natural ways one communicates, learns, and creates. Touted to be the world’s most advanced holographic computing platform, the Microsoft HoloLens will be enabled by Windows 10 – but of course! This is the first time that the Microsoft HoloLens will offer high-definition holograms to life in your world, as it will integrate with your physical places, spaces, and things.

With Microsoft HoloLens, you are placed right smack at the center of a world that blends holograms with reality. This means you can design and shape holograms, where you can then have a new medium in order to express your creativity, which is a more efficient way to teach and learn, not to mention being more effective in visualizing your work and sharing your ideas. The digital content and creations that come up will also be more relevant when they come to life in the world around you.

You might feel strange at first that there is no screen to touch or a mouse to click, but rather, you make use of gestures to create, shape, and size holograms. Your eyes are used to navigate and explore, while your voice will communicate with your apps. There are no cords, phones, wires, and tethers to worry about, and the lightweight and adjustable nature lets it fit any adult head size so that you can work and play comfortably with it. Spatial sound would also let you hear holograms, all of it running on Windows 10. I do wonder how much it will cost though!
