The Bekant desk from IKEA will let you choose whether you sit or stand

by

There’s nothing worse than being confined to the exact same spot where you have to sit day in and day out. We’re not meant to be seated and completely still for that long, which is probably why middle and high school were so terrible. We think getting a career and getting “out in the world” will give us a break from all that, but really it’s just more of the same if you’re not careful.

Thankfully we have far more freedom with our choice of surroundings and disposable income to make sure our desk doesn’t become our ball and chain. The BEKANT system from IKEA is a desk that will let you choose the right height for whatever your preference may be throughout the day. You can start off sipping your coffee sitting down, stand before or after lunch to keep yourself going, and sit for the last hour or two of the day.

You can adjust the height up as far as 48 inches, and as it is all controlled by up and down buttons, it can fit your requirements exactly. As it is a simple desk, you’ll want to keep your cable mess to a minimum, though with all the options to help you do that on the market, that should be a breeze. Of course, you’ll want to make sure you have cables that are long enough to not yank anything off of your desk, or this will be far more expensive of a purchase than $489. It is a tad pricey, but not having to do any work to switch between standing and sitting is a definite plus.
