SolSource cooks your food with the sun’s rays

by

It’s summer, and one of the biggest holidays of the season is tomorrow. Now when it’s warm out and you have a group of people together, one of the first things that comes to mind is a cookout. People are always finding reasons to drag out the grill and cook up some meat and veggies. This genearlly means using charcoal, or some other type of fuel. However, what if you could harness the heat from the sun that’s beating down on your head, and prepare your meal that way? Soon you will be able to do just that.

The SolSource is a cooking appliance that uses solar power to heat your food. Now I don’t mean that you have some sort of grill with solar panels that drive a heating element. In fact, there are no electronics involved at all. The device uses a set of curved panels set in a semi-circle that reflects the light onto a focused point. Just set your pan on the tray where the rays are focused, and you’ll be cooking in no time.

This 40-pound grill can be setup in less than a minute, and on a clear day, can grill, steam, bake, boil or fry just about anything. It only takes just a few minutes to get a hamburger cooked to your liking, so you don’t have to worry about your guests waiting around on their food. You can back the Kickstarter project (which has already surpassed its funding goal) and get your own SolSource for just $249 and get your own when they ship in October. If you wait until after the Kickstarter ends, you’ll be paying $399, instead.

Does this really work? It sounds like an expensive gamble if it doesn’t.

Yes, it does work! I just cooked bacon, sausages, and egg frittata this morning! :)
