Sony Crystal LED Display might be the future of TVs

CES this year will see Samsung, LG, Panasonic and Sony battle it out where 55″ TVs are concerned, and while Samsung and LG have taken the OLED route, Sony decided to travel differently with their “Crystal LED Display” that is still in the prototype phase. This Full HD 55″ model is a self-emitting display that relies on Sony’s unique methods to mount ultrafine LEDs in each of the Red-Green-Blue (RGB) colors, which is equal in value to the number of pixels. We are talking about approximately six-million LEDs for Full HD here, and with the RGB LED light source being mounted directly on the front of the display, this move will dramatically improve the light use efficiency.

As a result, your eyes are greeted with images with strikingly higher contrast, regardless of whether you are in light and dark environments. Other features will include a wider color gamut, superb video image response time, and wider viewing angles when compared to existing LCD and plasma displays, not to mention paying less to the utility station at the end of the month thanks to its low power consumption. There is no exact release date for the Sony Crystal LED Display, and I am quite sure it is going to be expensive when it arrives.
