Nikon Coolpix S8100 offers quality without the price
Nikon targets the consumer class digital camera market with the Coolpix S8100, where this 12.1-megapixel shooter comes with a backside illumination CMOS sensor that will enable consumers with enhanced performance as well as outstanding image quality for high-speed shooting and low-light conditions. Not only is it fast, but it is responsive and versatile as well, being full well capable of shooting fast moving subjects thanks to its incredible 10X zoom. Basically, it is capable of high-speed shooting at five full resolution frames at up to 10 frames-per-second (fps), the S8100 also boasts a pre-shooting cache which can record up to two shots before the shutter-release is fully pressed. Those who love being in the thick of action can check out the S8100’s Sports Continuous mode that records up to approximately 120 fps.
You also won’t find your subject going in and out of focus thanks to Subject Tracking, where the S8100 will be able to automatically track a designated subject by activating autofocus (AF). This is made possible courtesy of Nikon’s exclusive EXPEED C2 image processing engine that has been specially customized to each Coolpix model. You will find that its 10x Optical Zoom-NIKKOR ED glass lens (30-300mm, 35mm equivalent) won’t be wanting under most circumstances for the entry level user, and for folks who do not own a camcorder might not even consider getting one after playing around with the S8100 for some time because it has one-touch recording, optical zoom and stereo sound recording, not to mention a new editing function to modify your recently recorded movies.
Another feature worth looking into would be the advanced Night Portrait mode that reproduces night scenes and indoor portraits, where night scenes can be easily captured during handheld shooting thanks to its built-in flash. A new Mode Dial that has been conveniently located right beside the shutter-release button for quick and easy access to shooting modes adds to its versatility, especially for folks who want to toy around with more professional options instead of letting the camera decide all the shooting settings for them. The Coolpix S8100 will arrive later this month for $299.95 in black, red and gold shades.
