Samsung STORY Station 3.0 portable hard drive

Samsung jumps aboard the USB 3.0 bandwagon with the new STORY Station 3.0 portable hard drive, where it will boast the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface to make it the fastest of its kind from Samsung at point of publishing. This high end 3.5″ portable hard drive is now 10 times faster in terms of speed compared to the previous USB 2.0 interface, which makes it the perfect choice for folks who have plenty of data savng and retrieval to do without wasting too much time tapping one’s fingers on the table while waiting. In fact, it has been described as being “built for advanced users who demand fast transfer speed and data security without sacrificing design”, so you know that those folks over at Samsung are dead serious.

The Samsung STORY 3.0’s SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface is able to offer a maximum transfer rate of 5 gigabits per second (Gbps), which is a whole lot more compared to 480 megabits per second (Mbps) that is currently seen in USB 2.0. This means one is able to move 4MB of music (which is roughly the equivalent of a 3-minute song) or image files (let’s take a 6-megapixel camera in hi-resolution photos on average) within 0.02 seconds, while an HD movie in just 2.3 minutes. Don’t worry about your older computer which has yet to have a USB 3.0 port – this new interface is backward-compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 interfaces, although you will have to learn to live with the slower speeds then.

Apart from offering great performance, the Samsung STORY 3.0 is also a looker, boasting a minimalist design that was specially inspired by retro electronics while offering a combination of a grey, brushed aluminum casing with the logo stenciled in red. All casing materials are RoHS-compliant, while the ventilation slits ensure even heat dissipation so that performance remains stable and reliable. There are three energy-saving modes to choose from – idle, sleep and suspend, to add to its green credentials. You will be able to choose from varying capacities of 1TB to 2TB, where each purchase is backed by a 3-year warranty.

How is 10 times faster “slightly faster” in your eyes? the thing is that most people don’t have usb 3.0 on their motherboard yet. which is to bad for them!
