Here’s some tech that I can’t help but report on. If you play the video, you will see a video of a man simply drawing the hands on a clock. If you keep watching it, you will see that he is trapped in a box.
The poor guy. Actually, this guy was filmed prior to this display, which was spotted at Design Miami. Then the footage was put on an LCD clock face.
I think that what is interesting about this technology is that it definitely puts a whole new face on the traditional clock. However, I can’t help but feel sorry for the guy who had to spend twelve hours drawing and erasing the big and little hands. I can’t think of anything more boring.
I also can’t help but think that this clock, cool as it is, would not work well in the real world. One of the whole reasons that you have a clock is so you can look at the time in a quick second. With this clock, you might find yourself waiting several seconds for the man to draw the minute hand.
This is definitely a step in the right direction for making cooler clocks. Maybe future efforts could use something that is computer generated. For example, they could show a CG figure painting the hands. That way, you wouldn’t have to film anything. I’m sure you would probably bore some computer graphics guy somewhere, though.
