Visioneer Strobe 500
by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Office Gadgets
Visioneer is a well known name and a leader in intelligent document imaging solutions, having announced their latest device known as the Strobe 500. What is the STrobe 500, exactly? Well, it is a new mobile duplex color scanner that comes with a docking station that was developed with dual platform support for Windows and Mac operating systems. It will boast a 20-page automatic document feeder (ADF) alongside the capability to scan at 15 ppm/30 ipm. When left undocked, the scanner is still capable of operating via USB- or wall-power as a sheetfed scanner. As for its front feed slot, that is able to accept documents from letter/legal/A4 size to photos, receipts and plastic ID cards, basically anything that falls under its compatible size range.
Thanks to the incorporation of Visioneer OneTouch technology, the Strobe 500 scanner enables users to scan to the “destination” of their choice by pressing a single button. This simple movement does away with multiple steps that are normally associated when it comes to saving scanned documents in popular file formats. Visioneer OneTouch gives you the freedom and flexibility to scan documents to your choice of 6 preset yet completely user configurable destinations, allowing your documents to be scanned with the correct settings under a variety of settings including resolution, color, cropping and file format, followed by delivery to virtually any compatible application, folder or device. This is all made possible via the push of a single button.
Expect the Visioneer Strobe 500 to retail for $399.99, where it will come bundled with the ADF-equipped Docking Station. For those who want to pick up the Strobe 500 sans its docking station, they will fork out $50 less, although that wouldn’t really make much sense since the docking station will retail for $99.99 as a standalone peripheral. All purchases will be accompanied by software and drivers that support Windows 7, Vista, and XP, as well as Mac OS X 10.4 and above including Snow Leopard.
