Need Help With a Design

I think it’s about time that Coolest Gadget got a bit (or a lot) of a face-lift. The site has had this look for just over 4 years and it’s looking pretty dated, so it’s time for a change.

I’d like to ask for suggestions on how you think the new revision should look, what extra features you’d like to see and if there is anything else we can do to improve your experience here. We’ve already hired a great designer who will welcome your input.

Thanks to everybody who shares their opinions here (we’ll also hand out some random prize to the best suggestions).

If I’m honest…this site is something like an information nirvana. The hundreds of categories on the left….the ads right under the content and also between these comments…i know why i read your posts via google-reader.
The new site should have minimized categories and better integrated advertising. Also there should be a reason to come and visit your page instead of using a feed reader.
I’m reading you for a about 3 years…and the times i visited this site is countable on one hand. Do something more interactive with your followers…little contests, polls or just a nice feature to submit cool new gadget stuff.
Really looking forward to the new site.

Change the color theme to something else like navy blue and black gradients. Also, round the corners. Have fun designing!

Use some more of the screen perhaps keeping the menu and the advert bar stag net while allowing the center bar to still scroll. Whatever you do don’t bog down the site with a lot of code, K.I.S.S. fast load time is very important because I visit the site when I have a moment to spare and like to navigate through the site quickly when at work.

Good luck with the new site design, I look forward to seeing the upcoming changes.

CG has a lot of good content, perhaps highlighting some of the more popular posts in the sidebar would be beneficial for readers.
