Nio insures no gadget is left behind

nio-bluetooth-security-tag“You hear that, Mr. Anderson, that is the sound of inevitability. That is the sound of a stolen gadget.”

“My name is Nio.”

Not the first time that I have used dialogue from The Matrix to introduce a new product. This seems to happen every time I report on a product with a name that sounds like “Neo“. Today it is the Nio security system.

The Nio is a very simple concept. It uses “tags” that are synced via Bluetooth to a mobile device. These tags can be placed on briefcases, expensive gadgets, or anything else that you don’t want to let out of your sight. There’s a video of it after the jump.

This would come in handy for preventing theft. For example, if someone were to try and take your briefcase and run, the Nio alert would go off. I suppose you could run after the thief with a merry chase. In all honesty, this is probably to prevent you from accidentally or carelessly leaving something behind. Believe me, I have done this. Sometimes it is hard to believe that the things we value the most get left behind so easily.

Whoa, that was a bit deep for a gadget review. Now I’m sure most of you are asking what would happen if you lose your mobile device. The Nio security system is designed to prevent that. The video shows a woman arising from a table in a coffee shop, and leaves her mobile behind her. The Nio tag in her pocket that is on her keys goes off like an alarm.

In other words, the Nio prevents all forms of gadget separation anxiety. It is available for about $70, which may be a small price to pay for mobile insurance.

Did you her about the breaking news story in Phoenix? This guy stole over 500 bags from the airport baggage at the passenger pickup. This would be a great video to show on your site why people really need this. It was on Channel 5 news today.

I watch that story tonight about the luggage he stole. They said he would just walk right up to the passenger are and grab a bag and walk out the door. He even had a luggage sale at this home in West Phx.

It has always struck me how easy it would be to do this (steal luggage – see the posts above). No one checks that the bags you have are yours. Get to the claim early, pick an expensive looking bag and off you go. The chances of being caught are negligible – as this story shows.

This actually happened to me coming back to the U.S. from London. I think the thief targeted international flights with the belief that the passengers would have been gone longer and therefore have more stuff. I’m not sure if this Nio thing would have prevented this but I’ll certainly give it a try. There really is nothing available that’s even similar that I’ve seen.

The Nio would come in handy when I am traveling and am trying to keep an eye on my luggage, iphone, and other belongings. A really neat gadget. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent gadget and one that I could do with as I am always leaving my mobile behind, even at my own house when rushing out in the mornings.
