The WITness Watch combines old and new technology
Here’s an odd concept design for those of you that can’t stand to carry around a normal watch. It may look like an extremely modern watch, but it takes a design cue from much older technology. It’s meant to resemble the very old sun dials. Something that most people couldn’t read now to save their life, even if some do use them for decorative purposes out in the garden. For those of you that can’t read a sun dial, you might want to start practicing before you seek something like this out.
The watch was designed by Hay Heun, who apparently enjoys making people’s heads ache every time they are itching to discover the time. Actually, after glancing at the examples of the face of the watch and the times listed underneath them, it wasn’t that difficult to understand how it works. It just might take you a couple of extra minutes when you glance at it to figure things out. It’s no worse than a watch that conveniently leaves out any numbers.

I can understand such a manner of thinking, even if I do not agree with it, especially because it’s not a bad thing to be keen on unusual stuff only. So, if, for example, you wouldn’t buy a regular watch, not even in a million years, then here you have a device that is a mixture between old and new that might be on your liking. The watch has a modern design, as you can see for yourselves, but is based on a quite old technology, the sundial technology, to be more precise. For those who don’t know, “a sundial is a device that measures time by the position of the Sun. In common designs such as the horizontal sundial, the sun casts a shadow from its style (a thin rod or a sharp, straight edge) onto a flat surface marked with lines indicating the hours of the day. As the sun moves across the sky, the shadow-edge progressively aligns with different hour-lines on the plate.” ( Wikipedia) The sundials are not all the same and the description fits some models only. Whatever might be the principles they’re operating on, sundials are quite difficult to read. However, if you start learning how to read a sundial, you might enjoy the WITness Watch, created by designer Hay Heun, who must find something interesting in making people torture themselves while trying to read the time. As for the image that is displayed on the watch, you should know that it imitates the shadow that the movement of the sun created on the sundial during a day. The advantage the WITness Watch has over the ancient versions of the sundial is that it gives the user the chance to know the time even when the sun isn’t up in the sky.
