Personal Rapid Transit set to debut soon

With the population rising, it leaves people searching for alternative forms of transportation for heavily populated areas.  Well this idea for Masdar City looks like something straight of an Isaac Asimov book I read years ago.  They are basically an electronic taxi without a driver.  You choose where it is you’d like to go and it will take you there or close to it.  Initially the system will stay fairly simple, but as time progresses it will continue to be modified and become more complex.

Actually, the planner that designed the network refers to it more as an elevator type system as of now.  Just push a button and it takes you to where you need to go.  Passengers will be able to get within 100 meters of any destination.  The system that will be located within Abu Dhabi is definitely revolutionary.  I doubt that this new system is perfect, but I am curious to see it be modified and for other ideas to be spawned from this one.  Personal Rapid Transit is set to make its debut sometime this year.

This invention will require construction of many structures in order to cater many destinations.. This will surely cost too much.. It might be impossible for now to put up something like this because of the status of our present economy..

Hi Camille, I think the Personal Rapid Transit concept is feasible in a new urban or metropolis location. I mean, constructing this to an existing city would be very costly and difficulty. However, building a new metropolis where this progressive transit system will be integrated would surely be an astounding reality and practicality. It is the modern city planning where traffic and infrastructure developments are carefully projected for many years, where not only the local population growth is considered but also the influx of immigrants or foreign tourists.

I thought this city does not exist but it does. I searched and I found out that Masdar is in Abu Dhabi UAE, and it is also somewhat a huge laboratory. A “green” system is being tested there and people are like the human “guinea pigs” of this huge experiment. They are trying out to develop the first zero-carbon city. I hope this turns out for the best.

Personal Rapid Transit should not be “rapid” at all because one could be easily nauseated riding this capsules if it run swiftly. Basically, this transit is designed for site seeing and in now way would I have it ran rapidly when I’m hanging around and getting the best bird’s eye view of a modern city such as the one in Masdar.
