Stove Top design means you can cook anywhere … all you need is a tabletop
Our friends over at Yanko have released an interesting design by Maurizio Maiorana for a fold up portable stop top mat which uses silver as a conductor. The “Cooka” incorporates silver because of it’s excellent thermal properties which allow for effective heating of pots and pans while keeping the tabletop nice and cool.
The cool thing about the pad is that it’s essentially a multi burner hot plate but with a stylish and portable design that’s really simple. Three round heating elements of various sizes incorporated in a roll-up LSR Liquid Silicon Rubber, which also has great thermal properties. And the silver plates are surrounded by tiny holes that constantly blow out a stream of hot air around the item being cooked, so that excess heat is not lost during cooking. Electricity comes a simple flat electrical plug. The pad is ideal because it can take temperatures ranging from -60 to 280 degrees centigrade. So, while the heating pads are boiling water and frying chicken, the LRS pad and the tabletop below it stay nice and cool. It’s also very easy to clean.
This kind of design not only is beneficial for say, campers – but also those who live in studio apartments strapped for space.

Disregard my earlier comment. I failed to see that it said “concept.” Sorry for that.

I think this article was actually a strong kick off to a potential series of articles about this topic. Most bloggers pretend to understand what they are preaching about when it comes to this area and generally, nearly no one actually get it. You seem to grasp it however, so I think you ought to start writing more. Thanks a lot!

I love the convenience of this cool gadget and I wonder if this is being marketed widely now? The only suggestion I would like to add on the Stove Top is a thermostat control and automatic shut down. With this gadget, it is very likely that someone might forget to pull of the power and the safety hazard of fire won’t be remote.

I hope it can also have an on/off switch so that people can conveniently cut off power supply/heating if they want to. The designs are bold and perky, I hope they can sell this one publicly so we can test them out.
