Sony Ericsson W995 Walkman phone

by

If there’s one thing I love about tradeshows and conventions, it is the number of new releases (be it software or hardware) that hits the market, never mind whether the times are good or bad. Here we have the recently announced Sony Ericsson W995 Walkman phone that is ready to take its place at the pinnacle of the Walkman line of handsets, and is touted to be one heck of a video cell phone, allowing you to watch news, TV shows and the latest blockbusters in premium video quality, while you can also check out the latest user-generated content on YouTube thanks to Turbo 3G or Wi-Fi connectivity. More on the W995 Walkman right after the jump.

There is one strange thing about this handset though – normally, we know that Sony Ericsson classifies their phones into three lines – a standard handset for the masses, a music-centric Walkman line as well as a photo-focused Cyber-shot. Today, the W995 Walkman is not only a great handset in terms of handling all your mobile audio entertainment needs, it also packs in a 8.1 megapixel camera – offering best in class photo-shooting capability no matter where you are. According to Alexandre Cardon, Global Marketing Business Manager at Sony Ericsson, “No longer will the video you transferred from your PC to your phone play in low resolution or bad quality. With Media Go™ and the W995 the experience is as good on your phone as it was on your PC. The W995 Walkman phone brings together the very best music experiences of any phone, augments this with best in class video and sharing capabilities to offer the most complete communication entertainment package to date. This powerful mobile phone delivers the best possible video resolution that can fit in your pocket and with enough battery stamina to watch two full length feature films. The W995 also comes complete with the award winning clear audio experience and an 8.1 megapixel camera for the highest quality picture and sound available in a mobile phone.”

Other features found on the W995 Walkman include :-

  • Optimized video playback with style and performance
  • Videos straight to your phone
  • Wi-Fi and Turbo 3G connectivity
  • 2.6” display
  • Powerful speakers and 3.5mm audio jack
  • 8.1 megapixel camera with Photo Flash and face recognition
  • Memory Stick Micro slot
  • aGPS and Google Maps

You will be able to find this in selected markets from Q2 onwards in Progressive Black, Cosmic Silver and Energetic Red colors.

I didn’t read anything about having a browser to surf the web. Such a powerful phone and no web capabilities besides loading television shows and watching stupid videos? Piece of crap too. Don’t want it.
