Dolphin Waterproof MP3 Player gets an upgrade
Some of you may remember two years ago when we reported on the Dolphin waterproof MP3 Player from the Japanese company Century. The original Dolphin is designed to clip to a swimmer’s goggles, and the company has recently upgraded the Dolphin to the NU Dolphin TOUCH.
The Dolphin TOUCH has a curved touch pad interface that can somehow work even when underwater. I’m not certain if it is the first waterproof touch interface on the market, but since the technology is already here, the TOUCH won’t be the last.
The TOUCH plays both MP3 and WMA files, and has 4GB worth of flash memory, which is good enough for about 960 songs. Not only that, the TOUCH also has an FM radio built-in for more listening options.
The Dolphin TOUCH is powered by a built-in 180mAh/3.7V rechargeable battery, and has a 96 x 24 LCM display. It also comes with a set of waterproof headphones.
The product has only just been recently announced, so there is no word on pricing or availability. If you are looking for a pricing estimation, the original Dolphin was about 81 Euros, or 12, 800 yen. As for an estimation on availability, I am guessing that the Dolphin TOUCH will probably be a Japanese release.

While these are an interesting product, there are some definite issues with this model. Many people report that they stop working after just a few uses underwater. People who are interested in a waterproof MP3 player may be better off taking a look at the GSI or Intova models.
