Nintendo DS an E-book reader?

by Mark R

Considering that e-book readers are practically a standard feature with most Portable Media Players, it is no surprise that the versatile Nintendo DS is trying to get in on the action.

I’m not saying that all Nintendo DS devices will be e-book readers, but HarperCollins has worked with Nintendo to create the Collins Pocket Classic series in e-book form for the famed portable gaming system.

The Collins Pocket Classic series include such great works of literature including Sherlock Holmes, Pride and Prejudice, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and more. HarperCollins has also commissioned new introductions for each book, as well as its author.

Screenshots of this particular program show the books arranged on a shelf with their spines showing, just like a real bookshelf. The program also helps the user select a book depending on the user’s preferences. Sure, it may not be the Kindle, but if you want something to pass the time on a long trip, I can’t think of a better way than reading a good book.

This collection will be available on the day after Christmas, so you won’t be able to get it as a gift for someone this holiday. You can pre-order it on Amazon for about $30 now, and hopefully it will arrive as you make your New Year’s resolution of reading more books.
