Acer has searched around long and hard, and have decided to settle upon Seagate’s line of Momentus 5400.6 hard drives to be used in its new range of notebooks that will be released shortly. What made Acer come to that decision, you ask? Well, the Momentus 5400.6 hard drive is a 2.5″ 500GB model that touts to have the fastest data transfer rates in its class, allowing mobile users to get their work done with minimal wait time possible, without sacrificing on data integrty.

The Seagate Momentus 5400.6 500GB hard drive range is able to achieve the fine balance between capacity, speed and durability in order to support rich digital gaming and other intensive multimedia applications - something Acer, er, aspires to achieve with its Aspire line. Seagate has managed to achieve an areal density of 394 Gbytes per square inch with its Momentus 5400.6 drives, making it the highest ever for its kind to date. In addition, it is able to hits a maximum data transfer rate of 87MB/s, which clearly places it in top position for a 5400-rpm notebook drive. Seagate’s new 500GB Momentus hard drive enables Acer to deliver the richest multimedia experience and on-the-go robustness available for notebook computers.”

The Momentus 5400.6 hard drive did not arrive at its lofty position if not for its predecessors that paved the way, leading up to the current fourth generation that sits pretty at the top of the food chain. You will be able to choose from a wide range of capacities, including 120GB, 160GB, 250GB, 320GB and the flagship 500GB model. All Momentus 5400.6 hard drives come with 8MB of cache to keep things moving at a zippy pace.
