Plantronics releases GameCom 777 Surround Sound Gaming Headset
Plantronics has recently introduced the GameCom 777 Surround Sound Gaming Headset that brings virtual 5.1 surround sound effects to both ears. While purists might argue that it is travesty to attempt virtual 5.1 surround sound effects through a pair of headphones as it won’t sound as good as the real thing, many people are willing to settle for less. Just take a look at the MP3 format – it surely loses out to CD quality, but then again MP3 is a real tour de force that looks set to stay on for many years since it is deemed ‘good enough’ by the masses. Ah well, enough rants – let’s take a look at what the Plantronics
GameCom 777 Surround Sound Gaming Headset offers.
The Plantronics GameCom 777 will come with both Dolby Headphone and Dolby Pro Logic II technologies within a plug-and-play USB sound card that is capable of digitally processing sound for immersive audio. It is used in a same manner as in high-performance home theater systems, with Dolby Pro Logic II processing high-quality stereo (two-channel) audio into five channels of full-bandwidth surround sound. Of course, the GameCom 777 isn’t meant to sound good only, but it actually works great over your ears thanks to an ergonomic design. Each pair comes with a special ‘hide-away’ boom that was designed to tuck into the headband, transforming the headset into a pair of high-quality headphones for music and multimedia use. Good thing the noise-canceling microphone is telescopic, so it doesn’t have to look so ugly jutting out at all times. You will get in-line volume and microphone mute controls that are a snap to access.
Getting the GameCom 777 will solve most of your headset issues – it sounds great for movies and games, while you’ll be able to use it with VoIP programs such as Skype, Windows Live and Yahoo! Messenger as well. The GameCom 777 will retai lfor $99.99 a pair.
