Polaroid is making a comeback, baby!

by Mark R

Good news, Memento Guy! Even though Polaroid announced that they were discontinuing instant film cameras last February, they are bringing it back, and making it even better!

That’s right, the big P announced that they intend to add instant printing to digital cameras. All I can say is: it is about time! I can’t stand going to my printer every time I want to print out a picture, and if I could do it from my camera, it would be excellent.

Of course, if I wanted to get a print out of a picture, I could just go to Kinkos or Wal-Mart, and probably get my prints from there. If Polaroid can offer this service with some convenient smaller gadget that is cheaper, then I believe they might be on the verge of some kind of photographic success.

Now all of those old nostalgic people who mourned the death of instant film at the beginning of this year will be appeased! I suppose this is what the marketing people at Polaroid would call a “target audience” for their new product.

These pictures have a size of 4×3, just like the old school photos. I don’t have the information on when this new instant film process will be available to the general public, but they had better keep the price low.

I think it seems like a bit of a gimmick.

Instant printing seems to be taking off – Polaroid already do a Bluetooth photo printer dont they? I think Bluetooth or wireless transmission is the future rather than integrated printing – allows you to share printing between your camera, cameraphone, digital media device etc., and with your friends’ devices as well.

there is a niche for polaroid film that instant printing cameras will not in any way fill. those who are mourning the loss of such an amazing and unrecreatable medium will NOT be appeased. at all. in the slightest. not one inch of a bit. alas, i must violently disagree with you when you say it’s being brought back and it’s better. it’s been replaced, that’s the bottom line.

Do you have any idea when the polaroid film will be put back into stores? I usually bought mine from blacks, any word on when?

Fantastic. Polaroid! I don’t know that many people could live without Polaroid being in the forefront of shoot and snap photography. Now by adding an instant printer you will return to number one.

I think Blue tooth or wireless transmission is the future rather than integrated printing. there is a niche for Polaroid film that instant printing cameras will not in any way fill. Thank you for good idea that you share on us.

Blue tooth is getting it’s way in the market. With the surge of new technology, things are getting easier. However digital cameras still produced fine and quality photos.
