Your probably right, babies love white noise since it reminds them of being in their mother's womb, but as a kid gets more mature, behaviour alters as well. However, my two kids plus all those I've ever seen near vacuums run, hold their ears, or do anything they can to get away from it. (ONCE my son sat there patting the vacuum while it was running, but now he cries when it gets near him.) Maybe a vacuum operating from across the room will calm a *baby* just as white noise or ocean sounds will, but I think that's a bit different from toddlers, whom this "toy" seems designed for.
