John, you just identified that the whole universe doesn't revolve around America (in spite of what Americans think!). These products are from the UK, where PETROL (we use gas for cooking!) is unleaded and identified in green, and diesel is identified in black, hence the product colours.
A larger diesel nozzle doesn't stop someone from filling a diesel with 'regular'/'gasoline'/'unleaded petrol' and destroying the engine & fuel system.

I guess the product might be especially applicable to American visitors to the UK who rent a vehicle!!

I don't know where John is from, but in South Africa Diesel pumps are black (low-sulphur diesel is yellow), unleaded petrol is green.

I think this is quite a useful little gadget. In SA we have pump attendants - not allowed to pump your own fuel. Since I drive a 'normal' car that has a diesel engine, I always have to get out of the car and make sure the attendant puts diesel in. They often fight with me and I have to point out the filler cap that says "DIESEL". Then again, if they don't read the filler cap, they probably wont look at the Fuel Checker either.

Diesel pump nozzles are green-handled. The "Diesel Checker" is black: the same color as the gasoline pump nozzles. Cheers to confusing the confused!
