Wine in pop-top cans: A sign of the times

July 21st, 2008 by Mark R in Miscellaneous Gadgets

Every once in a while, some new idea comes along that is very practical, but probably won’t be implemented because “it has always been done this way”.

For example, the idea of wine in pop-top cans. I’m sure a lot of wine connoisseurs are probably saying: “Wine in pop-top cans? Zut alors! Cans are for beer! Fine wine shall not be drank like le Budweiser!”

Two Swedish designers named Jens Andersson and Jonas Forsman have created a special kind of can designed for wine-drinking. As you can see, they are definitely classier looking than traditional 12 ounce cans, especially when it comes to the shape and the pop-top. In case you are wondering, they are recyclable.

So far, there is no major wine industries that are interested in this new concept of wine marketing. Perhaps there is something that will have to catch on, but I think we all know that wine purists will never warm up to this.

I don’t see why you shouldn’t ship wine in this. After all, I’ve seen bulk wine that comes in plastic covered boxes, for crying out loud! Let’s just say that the wine that comes in cans is the cheap kind.

Sorry for my english,

Why wine comes in bottle ? and why the larger bottle is the better is ?

Wine is a living liquid:
- that must not be shaken (people pay attention to glass)
- that must have less thermal exchange with outside (that’s why the bottle must be large)

So cans of wine will done ugly results …

“Fine wine shall not be drank like le Budweiser!”

That should be “drunk,” not “drank.”
