Hmm..its Dec yet I don't find it for sale anywhere. Even its manufacturer, Pramac, doesn't have the product listed on its website... this all sounds like a publicity stunt to me. Or just more BS from an industry that famous for it.

On a more serious note, why is this Mark R guy who wrote the article simply taking these claims at face value? This industry is full of BS. A study done by MIT showed that small wind turbines produce less than 30% of what the manufacturers claim, on average. Knowing quite a lot about this industry, I would peg the number for this turbine at even less than that. I can't see the torque needed to start turning a generator. This is all pointless anyway, look up Newton and Betz. Energy extraction from wind is all based in physics. There are laws that govern what can be produced. At the rooftop level, the wind simply isn't there. Its not the case that you get the same output form 3 mph winds for 2 hours as you would 6 mph winds for 1 hour. It isn't a linear relationship. It would take almost 2 days of 3 mph winds to get the same output from a single hour of 10 mph winds. The relationship is that drastic. That's why turbines are so high in the air, thats where the winds are.

I hope to be proved wrong though, coal fired utility plants have to go!

Gadgets- try that online search again. The device was introduced at the Milan Greenergy design show earlier this year and will be available in Sept. 2008.
