The General Electric Copper Spotlight

by Ally

There have been a lot of steampunk style gadgets popping up, but most are DIY kind of projects and very few are actually up for purchase.  Which can be extremely dissapointing for those of us that don’t have a single skill that would help create such a work of art.  Well Urban Archaeology makes several different styles a lot looking almost historic and just a little steampunk.  This cute little spotlight being one of their numerous products.

The Antique Copper Searchlight is almost deceptive in its picture.  I thought it would be just a small sit on your desk type light.  However, it measures 30” tall and 22” wide.  Sadly this being such an attractive light it comes at a very very high price.  It is currently being sold for a whopping $6,500.  Which is a bit out of most people’s price ranges.  Otherwise I would definitely be trying to snag one up myself.  If you’re in the mood to drool over different products that are way too expensive for you to actually own, the site is definitely worth a look or two.

I’m not sure if the writer of the article realizes this light was not produced ala “steempunk” recently for consumption. It was built during WWII for military vessel use and has survived, albeit smoothed and polished recently. It’s history and survivor-ship is what makes it valuable more so even than it’s beautiful construction. I have one also,it is the coolest light fixture I may ever find.
