LG Goes Full Circle With New Ellipitical and Circular LCDs
May 15th, 2008 by AndrewD in Electronic Gadgets
If you had a concept design in mind that involved using a circular LCD display, up until now you’d be pretty much out of luck at seeing your invention reach the production stage. Though now, LG has announced their new LCD displays which take on elliptical and circular shapes.
LG Display has announced their success in developing the world’s largest 6-inch elliptical and 1.4-inch circular-shaped LCDs which take a side-step away from the traditional use of rectangular displays, and inches closer to full-production of alternative display form factors.
The 6-inch elliptical LCD measures 78.8 x 131.4 mm, while the smaller 1.4-inch circular LCD measures only 35.5 mm diameter. And even with their comparatively large sizes, both displays are capable of showing 262,000 colors, boasting a 160-degree viewing angle.
These new displays are awesome, solely for the fact that it opens up the gadget world to a whole new plethora of design concepts and forms, no longer limiting LCD displays to the traditional four-sided dimensions. Adding luscious curves to the LCDs adds a whole new level to the future of gadgeteering.
LG will be showing off their new displays at the 2008 Society for Information Display (SID) exhibition in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A from May 18 to the 23rd.
