Logitech and SRS Labs team up
April 9th, 2008 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, PC Gadgets
SRS Labs and Logitech have come together, and the result of their union is the Logitech Z Cinema Advanced Surround Sound System which features SRS Labs’ TruSurround HD technology. This new speaker system targets consumers who plan to utilize their computers as the main source of entertainment at home. The inclusion of SRS TruSurrround HD surround technology claims to immerse consumers without going through the hassle and trouble of installing extra rear channel speakers. Sounds like the perfect solution for small apartments, doesn’t it? Let’s read on more about the Z Cinema speaker system after the jump.
According to Tim Leehane, director of product marketing for Logitech’s Audio business unit, “Although people are starting to enjoy movies, TV and music on their PC, many of them do not want to setup a traditional 5.1 speaker system to enjoy surround sound. Incorporating SRS TruSurround HD into the Logitech Z Cinema speaker system provides our customers with outstanding audio quality and a unique surround sound experience from their PC with a minimum of effort and setup. The difference is dramatic.”
The Z Cinema speaker system comprises of a couple of satellite speakers accompanied by an 8″ subwoofer which is touted to reproduce a full frequency range for accurate, crystal clear sound. In addition, SRS TruSurround HD receives input from a multichannel audio source and delivers a truly realistic 5.1-speaker surround sound audio experience from 2.0 or 2.1-speaker configurations. Logitech claims that the “phantom” speakers appear to extend all around the room, producing a distinctly immersive surround sound field with high-frequency definition and added bass and dialog enhancement. Frankly, I take such claims with a pinch of salt - although the performance might come close to an actual 5.1 speaker system , it rarely does. Even so, a dedicated 5.1 speaker system so far has not disappointed me - what about your audio experience?
