USB Webcam with Suction Cup wants to waste your screen
by Chris in Audio/Video Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets
Webcams are one of those gadgets that seems to come in all shapes in sizes. While people don’t seem to create nearly as many crazy designs as they do for mice and thumb drives, you still see some pretty wacky stuff. Take this USB Webcam with Suction Cup for example.
It seems logical enough, you need to place your cam in a very specific position, so why not add in a suction cup? My question is where you will actually use the suction cup. You could go for the wall, but unless you have really smooth walls, this thing will never stick. Perhaps your desk would be ideal, then again if you’re just setting it there you wouldn’t really need a suction cup. So where would you use it? Look no further than the wonderful image above for your answer.
Why on earth would you sacrifice a good chunk of your viewable desktop just to stick on a webcam? Seriously folks, there are far better solutions than this.

March 26th, 2008 at 8:48 pmI wouldn’t waste my screen space with this but it does bring up a useful point: you could mount it to the top of the screen and then use the flexible part to put the camera over a small part of your screen. This way it will look more like you are looking at the person you are chatting with. This leads to the next idea. When is someone going to come up with a monitor that has a webcam integrated right in the middle with some sort of 2 way mirror effect. That way you could be looking at the middle of the monitor (video window of the person you are talking to) and it would look like you are looking at your chat partner. Wow, what terrible dictation, lol. But you get the point.
