Video game sales increased on February

According to a market research made by the NPD Group, video game sales went up 34% on February and reached the high number of $1.33 billion. It doesn’t matter if there are gaming consoles in short supply, like the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360, because people keep buying games.

After all, gamers are always waiting for new (good) titles, and believe it or not, companies make most of their money on games and accessories. That is why a PlayStation 3 controller costs €50 here in Portugal, and a PS3 game is a bit more expensive. Even PlayStation 2 games don’t come cheap, such as Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 that was approximately priced at €60 when it first came out a few months ago.

Anyway, one of the games that will surely become a hit when it comes out on late April is the popular “Grand Theft Auto IV” made by Rockstar. According to some analysts, there will be 9 million units sold until October for different gaming consoles, and 6 million units will go straight to Xbox gamers.

On the other hand, there are already successful games (in terms of sales) on the market, such as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, that took the first place on the top list of games during February, with close to 300,00 units sold. Devil May Cry 4, and Wii Play also had some success, but not as good as Call of Duty.
