I remember when I first heard about lock bumping a couple of years ago. Honestly it really freaked me out. If you’re not familiar with the term, it’s where someone with a specially-crafted key can thwart almost any lock simply by applying force in the correct way. It’s almost scary how easily it can be done with the right key. That’s why it might be good to look into a set of locks that cannot be bumped open such as these from KwikSet.

While knowing that your locks are bump-proof is great, that’s actually not the best feature of these locks. If you look at the picture above, you’ll notice a flat piece of metal positioned in the lock just above the key. Inserting this while your key is turned will allow you to remove the key and insert a completely different key. The lock will then change itself to support the new key, and not the old one.
