New keyboard is silent, hooks into two different PCs
February 21st, 2008 by Chris in Electronic Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets
Do you ever get tired of hearing the sound of yourself typing? Honestly, it’s never really bothered me, but I’m sure that if you work near other people, they might get annoyed with it after some time. Next time you go shopping for a new keyboard, you might look for one that’s a bit quieter than the rest. Take this one from Thanko which is not only silent, but works on two PCs.
While it’s pretty obvious what it means for a keyboard to be silent, I don’t often hear of one that boasts the ability to work on two computers at the same time. I guess that it’s really not the same time, but a flip of a switch just above your arrow keys will allow you to operate on a second computer.
While this does seem like a fairly useful product, even at $51, I can’t help but wonder what you’ll do about a second mouse. I figure if you’re going to have a multiple computer setup there are really two ways to go about it. Either use a KVM switch, or a software solution like Synergy.

February 21st, 2008 at 8:16 amJust silly… Never ever in my entire life have I ever heard anyone complain about someone typing, tat means their actually working and a good thing if you wish to impress your boss. So other question, if you buy it for yourself at home, who you have to annoy except yourself? I’ve said it before I’ll say it again, advertisers LOVEEEEE creating fear in people to create a demand for products they don’t need in the first place and or just senseless features. I for one, love the sound of others typing, it’s therapeutic. I’ve worked for ad agencies and know how dishonest they truly are in twisting the truth when putting new products to sell- I’ll pass on this. I’ll stay with my LOUD keyboard LOL! As if people have super hearing that keystrokes become so annoyingly loud it’s unbearable, you’d think somebody would’ve complained by now rather than wait three decades after the internet has taken off and every home has a computer and not one peep of a person has ever said, “I hate my keyboard, it’s so dam loud!”

February 21st, 2008 at 8:22 amSaying keyboards are loud is like stating your walking is too annoying. See how absurd this “silent” keyboard is? I’m sure it’s nice and all, but nobody is going to buy it for their work place, that’s the company’s job to provide for their employees and UNLESS lots of them start complaining about feeling annoyed by their coworker’s “LOUD” keyboard, the company won’t get them. I swear I should become the official Coolest Gadget’s Critique here since I leave comments just about everyday because lots of the new line of products they show to try and sell people are senseless.

March 27th, 2008 at 8:25 pmI came across this post be I actually need a silent keyboard. It’s clearly something of a niche product, but I’m a reporter and my sources are often unnerved (and less forthcoming) during phone interviews when they can here me clacking away.
I want one.

May 16th, 2008 at 10:48 pmSilent keyboards can be useful depending on the situation. Let’s say you’re typing something at night and you don’t want other members of the family to know, or come and say hi to you knowing you are there. You know, like ninja-typing, don’t hear me, don’t see me, leave me the fuck alone and get off my back? Err i wish I had one.

June 26th, 2008 at 9:02 amTo say no one needs one is absurd. I work on the phone, like the reporter said above… no one wants to hear you typing while you’re talking to them. Even if your attention isn’t split, it’s a distraction for the other end of your conversation to hear. This is a solution, just what I was looking for. Just because “you” can’t use it doesn’t mean it’s silly or unusable. While you find it “therapeutic” to listen to key taps, trust me… my callers won’t.

June 30th, 2008 at 5:31 amWhile I agree, the need for these may be limited….there is in fact a need. I work for the Federal Courts, and it is in fact disruptive to hear the court room deputies (not the court reporters), typing away while court is in session.
Personally I like the keyboards that make noise, helps me with typos. If I meant to type a letter, and I didn’t hear the associated key ‘click’, I know I screwed up.

July 2nd, 2008 at 4:27 amI do medical transcription and there are times when the dictation is “whispered” or there is already so much background noise, I don’t need anymore let alone noise from the keyboard! So maybe those you think this is stupid should re-evaluate and just comment it isn’t for them, but it may be good for others.

August 5th, 2008 at 9:25 amThere are many people out there with poor typing skills, i.e. clearly hitting the keys with more effort that is required. It is called unnecessary noise. In the workplace when you are sitting in cube without any privacy or walls to contain your noise you are definately going to be bothering someone!!! These keyboards are an awesome idea. Thank you
