Tatamet Fold-up helmet

If you are the type who rides a bike to work, you might find that you have no place to put your bulky helmet but in plain sight. Helmets have a way of taking up a lot of space for big heads, and there really isn’t a good way to store them.

Fortunately, Japanese manufacturers have come up with the Tatamet, a collapsible helmet. I believe that it was actually designed for emergencies, such as a great quake. (I’ve heard that Japan, like California, has its own version of the “Big one” that is coming any day now.)

So maybe the Tatamet is not designed for biking or skydiving, and I’m not certain if this is practical for emergency purposes. Actually, it would depend on how long it would take to unfold the thing. Also, even if you had the helmet on, how much good is it going to do if the entire building collapses on you?

I find it very interesting that this company uses anime characters to display their product. It makes it look like they are some prop in some cool anime sci-fi, like Cowboy Bebop. If you’re interested in this, you can get it for about $48.75.
