P.L.E.A.S.E. gives a shot without the needle

PLEASE

Anyone remember those scenes on Star Trek when the doctor would walk up to crew members and give them a shot, but there was no needle? It was just a little puff of air and that was enough to cure them of the alien disease or whatever medical emergency plagued them that week. I even remember episodes where the doctors would “inject” right through the uniform.

Well, it would appear that life imitates art once again with the development of the P.L.E.A.S.E. My source does not reveal to me what P.L.E.A.S.E stands for, but the device delivers a painless laser epidermal system to administer drugs, medications and other vaccinations without the pain of a needle.

So, about that acronym, maybe it stands for Painless Laser Epidermal Administering System, Easy? But what is important is not what P.L.E.A.S.E. stands for, but how it works. It can somehow “create an aqueous micropore in the skin to deliver the high molecular weight of medication”.

So, your children receive their vaccinations, without the sting. Bones McCoy, eat your heart out! Of course, I don’t know if it can inject through uniforms, but I’m guessing that will be a standard for the P.R.E.T.T.Y. P.L.E.A.S.E. model. Now all they have to do is come up with what that stands for.

This idea has existed for a long time. In fact, the Army etc. has used a similar device for inoculating new recruits.
This of course is a lot better. All they have to do now is
add an audio feature that plays “He’s dead Jim.” and viola’,
it’s Star Trek all over again.

Ok…cool but if you go to the manufacturers website it actually shows a video of how this works. Basically it creates a number of tiny holes in the epidermis then the medication is applied by a drug patch. It doesn’t inject the drug it just perforates the epidermis to make drug patch more effective.

The military injector uses a high pressure stream to inject subcutaneous vaccines instead of a needle. It’s not painless, it hurts like hell (ex military so I know from having it done to me).
