Dell’s Crystal LCD is nice, but overpriced
I’m proud of my computer setup. It isn’t the nicest one you’ll run across, but I like to think that it would turn a few heads. Of course, I’m always keeping an eye out for something that will really make me the envy of every geek on the block. I’m pretty sure that having one (or a pair) of these new Crystal LCD screens from Dell would have the desired effect.
Just looking at this screen makes me want to run out and get one. Unfortunately it doesn’t take long to bring me back to reality. A quick look at the specs and price make me realize that this monitor truly is just for show. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad screen at all, it’s a 22-incher that goes up to 1680 x 1050. Essentially what they’ve done is taken one of their nice 22-inch screens, set it on a tripod, thrown 4mm of glass on top of it with four embedded speakers.
There are two reasons why I wouldn’t purchase this monitor. First, I like to have two screens running at the same time (yes, even if it is a 22-inch screen) so I would ultimately want a pair. With the bulky glass overlay it would space the screens too far apart for my taste. The other big issue is the $1,199 price tag. For that money you could pick up a really nice 23-inch Apple Cinema HD and still have $300 to spare.
