IOGEAR DVI Video/Audio Extender Kit

by Edwin

iogear.jpg

IOGEAR has just launched its DVI Video/Audio Extender Kit, enabling digital signage professionals to distribute video and audio signals within a 100 foot radius to a designated display with a single cable. The entire kit comprises of a couple of DVI units, a local transmitter and a remote receiver where users will be able to hook up with a CAT 5e/6 Ethernet cable. Using DVI cords, the transmitting component will link to the native source and the receiving extender hooks up to a DVI display. The whole idea of this device is to set up audio/video configurations in remote, insecure locations, where the device will be able to broadcast audio and video material for a variety of digital signage settings, ranging from exhibits to trade shows, train stations and airports. Heck, I believe even universities will find this handy as lecturers will be able to dispense their lecture across multiple classrooms simultaneously.

Gigaworks T40 by Creative

Gigaworks T40 by Creative

Sometimes fancy company slogans are actually telling the truth. Such is the case for the GigaWorks T40, PC Speakers that Creative can justly boast: “Ultimate components, ultimate engineering, ultimate performance”.

I got a chance to try these out the other day, and they played almost as good as my normal Logitech Z Cinema speaker system. However, the Z Cinema has the unfair advantage with their giant subwoofer. The GigaWorks T40 may not have that, but it makes up for it with the two premium woofers woven with glass fibres. As for the tweeters, they are arranged in an MTM (midrange-tweeter-midrange) configuration, with a cloth dome for crystal clarity.

MobiBLU Cube 3

MobiBLU Cube 3

It has been a few years since we reported on the MobiBLU Cube, which was, at its time, the “smallest full feature digital audio in the entire world”, not to mention the cutest.

MobiBLU has now introduced the third version of this dinky MP3 player, and they have chosen not to change a good thing with its trademark cubical shape. It looks like they haven’t perfected that fold-up Nanum that we reported on a few months ago.

I am pretty impressed that something as small as the MobiBLU Cube 3 can have so many features. Believe it or not, this tiny guy has 2GB worth of memory (1,000 songs), and it can support MP3 and WMA formats. MobiBLU also managed to stuff an FM tuner in, as well as a voice/radio recorder. The screen, small as it is, can be used as a picture and video viewer. However, you might need a magnifying glass to view this postage stamp-sized screen.

Sharp announces tiny Intel Atom-based device

by Chris

Sharp D4

Since Intel announced their new Atom CPU, it’s been only a matter of time before someone actually released a tiny PC powered by the chip. We’ve already seen a concept gadget from Asus, however, Sharp is the first company to announce the release of one to the public.

Podcastudio – Everything you need to start your own podcast

by Chris

Podcastudio

I’ve never really thought about doing podcasts, as I prefer to stick to the written word as my medium of choice. I do know a thing or two about audio recording, so I know that buying the right equipment takes a lot more than just picking up a cheap USB mic. That’s why I really like this Podcastudio.

Orli Grab-It- The Hi-Tech Oven Glove

by Al

Orli

This is a cool little gadget I received in the post the other day, the Orli Oven Glove.

You wouldn’t normally class an oven glove as gadgety but what makes the Orli different is that it’s made out of silcone and for storage incorporates a sucker to stick on your oven door.

You can read our experiences with it over on Coolest Reviews or buy online from the Orli Shop.

Walk – Dont Walk New York Chair

by Matthew

roadchairThe Walk – Dont Walk chair is built from authentic New York City signs. What is ultra cool is that the signs still work via a remote control. The remote control is included which allows you to switch on and off the signs when needed. Maybe they should read, Sit – Dont Sit. Power is provided by a standard 115V wall outlet. Bulbs are standard too making them easy to replace when needed. The legs of the seat are made from steel street sign brackets and are galvanized and fitted with self levelling feet.

Stargate Mirror

by Edwin

stargate-mirror.jpgIf you have an appetite for fancy mirrors, then this Stargate Mirror ought to be your cup of tea.

Normally made of Naquahdah (and once unsuccessfully made of titanium) and 22 feet wide, our scientists have used glass and polystone to shrink the dimensions down to a mere 10 inches across. All you need is a Zero Point Module to power it, and you’re good to go. Convenient enough, now, to hang on your wall. When you’re not actively powering the gate to generate a wormhole, you can look at your reflection in the event-horizon.

Each $49.99 purchase comes with a “water-effect” event-horizon insert and is hand painted.
