Diving Mask gets Geeky

Dive Mask Camera

Rather than having to dive with a bulky digital camera encased in an underwater housing, this new dive mask has a digital camera built right into it. The Liquid Image Digital Underwater Camera Mask records underwater photos and videos hands free by encasing the camera into the dive mask itself.

The mask comes in two different varieties, an adult version – which carries a 5 megapixel CMOS censor, as well as an adult and teen version with a smaller 3.1 megapixel camera.

The mask has cross hair reticule which divers must alight before pressing the shutter button on the top of the mask. Also built into the mask are an array of super bright LED lights, eliminating the need for additional illumination. Storage comes the form of onboard micros SD slots and divers can then upload pictures and video from the camera via the onboard USB port. Also on board is an LCD Status Display which is powered by two 1.5V AAA Alkaline Batteries.

Divers, however, won’t be able to get too deep as the maximum operating depth of the Liquid Image Digital Underwater Camera Mask is about 30 meters.

The mask comes with USB Cable, User Manual, and ArcSoft Photo and Video Impression Software and will sell this Spring starting at around $100.

A great idea although their website says “ideal for swimming pool or snorkeling” – not sure how the picture quality will turn out, but seems to be worth the money overall. It’s an American company and I can only find a Hong Kong dealer on their website.

These are excellent the picture quality is good, really depends on the water quality though, good for clear water shots. Watch out for water in the memory card slot area though, use the silicone supllied. Your pals will be amazed at the shots you are able to take underwater!!!
