It still remains an analog signal and only changes the interface by which the signal runs. You're still getting a component signal, just plugging it into a different slot. Personally, I cannot tell the difference between them on either my Sony Bravia LCD or my Panasonic Plasma. I really don't believe that HDMI offers any benefit other than a smaller cable to run through the wall if you are wall-mounting the television. Visually I don't believe there is a difference.
