R/C Metal Detector

When I was a kid, I always wanted a metal detector. I knew that if I were to get one, I’d strike it rich by finding old coins and lost jewelry. Alas, my parents never thought that it would make a worthwhile investment. Sure, now that I’m an adult I could go out and buy one myself, but who has the time to wander around outside all day? Wouldn’t it be more fun if you had a metal detector built-into a radio controlled car?

That’s exactly the thought that the people at the London Science Museum had when they designed this cool R/C car. I doubt that this little guy would keep up with some of the fancier cars on the market, but the ability to find lost metal items would more than make up for it. When it does come across an object, the car will beep and light up to let you know of its findings. Of course, you’ll have to drive the car back over the spot to figure out exactly where the object is.

While I wouldn’t spend hours outside wandering around with a giant metal detector, I really wouldn’t mind driving one of these around for a little while. There’s something about playing with R/C cars that just never seems to get old. You can pick one up for right around $83.

At $83.00, sounds like it could be used in conflict areas for detecting land mines.
