Hitachi has paraded its hybrid LCD display at CEATEC, touting a super high contrast ratio of 8,000,000 to 1 – unfortunately the real world results weren’t exactly so stunning that you’d sooner sell off your mother to purchase one of these. The ridiculously high contrast ratio is achieved by using one LCD projector that fires into the panel while the other is a plain LCD panel. Other specifications were pretty ho-hum, including a brightness level of 700cd/m2. I guess this is but a technology showcase at the moment as it really isn’t ready for a prime time appearance just yet.
