HaptX on parade at TGS 2007

HaptX has displayed its new vibrating controller at Tokyo Game Show 2007, where some form of rumble technology has been incorporated to make the entire FPS experience all the more authentic. It replaces the mouse and certainly looks odd when used, as though your right hand is controlling a highly maneuverable nipple on a metal boob. I wonder what are the long term implications where ergonomics are concerned with this HaptX gaming peripheral.

HaptX is just a middleware – what you see at the picture is a product named Novint Falcon. It has been shown at E3 2006, and went retail in June.

Got to check it out at said E3 show, and it’s quite fascinating. Don’t know how successful it’ll be as a mainstream controller, tho.
