I would suggest making a new review… The latest version corrects most of your gripes(which I agree were a pesterance). The core apps from the iPhone are included(Mail, calendar, stocks, calculator, weather, clock, contacts, notes, maps and whichever ones I`m forgetting) and a rocker switch for volume has been added. The back is still scratchtastic and the ugly duckling wifi plate is everpresent. The prices also dropped considerably… I paid 375$ca for mine(16gig) and I believe it`s 299$ retail in the states.

This is an amazing product, and i have one right now…I love it, and hope that everyone that has one loves theirs to. I love how thin it is, and the new software upgrades really improved the ipod touch and its abilities to be sold.

The apple touch is literaly the best thing i have ever gotten. I also have the Iphone which has great features and its the best phone i have ever gotten.

I agree it’s nitpicking, but Apple is a company full of perfectionists. They don’t put out ugly stuff. They command a premium for their products, and if they want to get away with that, I expect a beautiful, functional device.

That being said, I still love my Touch.

This just doesn’t appeal to me. I’ve had a PDA for years that can do video and a whole lot more, including email!
The iPod Classic looks like it’ll be the one I go for – if I can justify replacing my 8 month old iPod Video 5.5g

I’ve been using the touch for a couple of days now and to be honest I’ve been blown away by it. I don’t see the so-so blacks issue that people seem to be talking about. Photos look great on it too.

16 gig isn’t very large but most people don’t need 30 or more as shown by the massive sales of ipod nanos. Add to this the best mobile browser on the market and I don’t know how anyone can call this thing expensive.

The back can get scratched, true, but this is a very minor issue, as it the wifi antenna being a bit ugly, I mean come on, this is nitpicking to the extreme.

In conclusion, the screen is awesome, the music playback is fantastic and the web functions are the best I’ve seen on a portable device that isn’t a laptop.

I agree that apple should have gone with a larger hard drive size. I’m sure it would not have made this product that much larger to at least make a 30GB available (considering the size of the 30GB iPod video and the new technology). As for the missing features, I guess that’s why this is cheaper than the iPhone. If you want the extra features, then you pay the extra money. The iPod is meant to be only a media PLAYER in my opinion. All that should be expected from it is the ability to play music, videos, and show pictures. I’d say if they increase the hard drive size then this would be a great purchase!
