Axiomtek targets medical industry with new computer
September 14th, 2007 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Medical Gadgets, PC Gadgets
Axiomtek from Taiwan is a computer hardware developer, and the company is looking toward the medical industry by unveiling a new computer (MPC170-831-FL) which runs on Intel’s Core 2 Duo processor and comes complete with an integrated webcam and speakers, all crammed into a 17″ monitor case that does not have any noisy cooling fans whatsoever. It is interesting to note that this computer has been certified to be waterproof, so you don’t need to worry about the accidental spill that occurs whenever a butterfingered colleague is around, and neither do you need to fret when it starts to rain while you’re transporting one of these out in the open. Let’s take a closer look at the hardware after the jump.
This Axiomtek offering’s built-in webcam brings 1.3 megapixels of imaging goodness with the inclusion of a microphone as well as speakers that make VoIP conversations easy. The webcam functions as a remote monitoring cum telemedicine healthcare terminal solution for hospitals and other medical facilities. The MPC170-831-FL also functions as a POC (Point of Care) and HMI (Human Machine Interface) device where necessary. It is amazing that while the casing does not contain any fan whatsoever to keep the noise level down, the processor and innards still keep their cool courtesy of a streamlined design. It doesn’t hurt either that most hospitals are air conditioned these days, another important factor that helps prevent the MPC170-831-FL from overheating during use.
The MPC170-831-FL has also been certified as dust- and water-proof, so there’s no need for opening up the case every couple of months to vacuum the inside. Additional features include an Intel 945GME GMCH Gen 3.5 integrated graphic engine with maximum 224MB sharing graphic memory, PCI interface support, an optional slim Combo drive, WiFi (802.11b/g) connectivity, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, and a 17″ medical panel display.
