eStarling has unveiled its latest WiFi digital photo frame, and it comes in a widescreen format that is a step up from standard digital photo frames that support only the 4:3 aspect ratio. In addition, it boasts Photobucket integration, enabling users who have stored their photos online to send it directly to eStarling for easy photo display. Not only that, you get RSS support that works with Flickr, Picasa, Photobucket, AOL, Smugmug, iPhoto, and Gallery among others. Additional features include text messaging to frame, dual use mode, auto power saving, and even email-to-frame. At $259 a pop, it looks like a pretty good buy for those new to the scene.

I received an estarling wifi frame for Christmas and the resolution of the photos is such that details are not crisp and clear… rather “low-res” looking. This is not what I expected. Have others had this experience or is there something wrong with my specific one?

re: Joy…

It definitely depends on your source material, as well as the specific eStarling frame that you have. The older 7″ frame, which is hobbled by both a 16:9 aspect ratio (there are very few cameras which shoot 16:9), and a measly 480 X 234 resolution, would make anything look pretty bad.

But for the record, I have the new eStarling 8″ frame, in a full 4:3 aspect ratio, and a 800×600 resolution (one of the best out there, right at 125 ppi). It looks GREAT, and after trying out several other frames, I’ve been very very happy with this one.
