Now here’s a robot that is almost guaranteed to freak out your entire household - the Gakken Mechamo centipede robot kit measures approximately a foot long when fully assembled and runs on batteries. There will be thirty two legs in total, moving along in a ripple of motion that you often find on a real centipede. Problem with this would be the constant tapping noise it makes whenever it scurries about your floor. I suppose a carpeted floor would help, but you can’t exactly carpet your entire home, can you? The Gakken Mechamo comes with a wireless remote control for you to take full control of it. It retails for $99.95 and requires a brain adept at deciphering the assembly instructions.

Throw a cam on it and a cable this may work for accident search/rescue/recovery opps or even archeology research.
