MP3 Players goin’ green
by James in Audio/Video Gadgets, Conceptual Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Mobile Phones, USB Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets, iPod gadgetsTravor Baylis, the inventor of the Free Play wind up radio, is at it again with his latest winding gadget called the Eco Media Player. Being able to play up to 40 minutes of music on one minute of windup time, the EcoMedia Player can also play videos (asv/mpeg4 format), on it’s bright full colour LCD screen, tune into your favourite FM radio station, view photo albums and even read ebooks … all without battery power.
All kinds of media and data can be stored in either the onboard 2gb internal memory or via SD cards. The Media player doesn’t require drivers to use to synch to a computer either. When connected to a PC or MAC, it’s instantly seen as an external disk drive which allows for easy “drag and drop” if all media files.
And if that wasn’t enough, the Eco Media Play also acts as it’s own record and tape ripper to capture a large record collection into portable mp3s. Wow. That’s a first as far as I know. And the built in microphone is great for recording voice memos. Lastly, the Eco Media Player also acts as a cellphone charger. With all this player does, one could think of it as the Swiss Army Knife of media players.
And even though it runs on windup power, the Eco Media Player does have an alternate Internal Lithium Ion battery which can be recharged via USB port, or the winding mechanism itself. You can get a maximum play time of 20 Hours on each charge.
Cost is about $340 US, but when you think about all that electricity you’ll save by winding and keeping the environment green, it’s not that bad a deal.
Now if Trevor can only stick a phone in it and a cool touchscreen interface, he may be able to get Cupertino notice.
