It's a matter of what you're used to I guess. Even police over here don't carry them and they seem to manage fairly well. The point of my comment though was that if you get hit by a rubber bullet from a shotgun you're going down anyway, being zapped as well seems kind of over the top! Assuming that the technologies are researched and proven to be safe in their context of use, more people should be supportive of the non-lethal options for security enforcement. The taser "pistol" is effective, but has a limited range and would be marginally useful in a crowd of people.
