The HandiRack – inflatible car rack protects your stuff and your roof
With summer vacation here, you may find yourself in need of some extra space in your car while travelling, as such, it’s a good idea to consider investing a product we showcased last year called the HandiRack. It will cost about a hundred dollars, but will protect your roof’s paint job from getting scratched while you’re hauling anything on top of your car. Whether surfboards, vacation luggage, or even a large piece of furniture you have to haul home from the store, the HandiRack is just the rack to do the job.
Winner of the 2006 Good Housekeeping Innovation Awards, the HandiRack is an inflatable rack which can carry over 175 pounds and not only installs in minutes, but will also deflate to the size of a small toaster and store in your trunk when you don’t need it. It can carry so much weight because of triple-layer vinyl skin design.
Installation is fairly straight forward as straps are flat enough to wrap into the car itself and have the doors close easily. This allows you to open and shut the doors and windows without any interference. The straps are secured by main plastic clips that hold it in place, whereby both inflatable chambers can be inflated.
HandiRack will work on any car, truck or van that doesn’t come with curtain airbags as standard equipment.

A must have for cars especially if you are always travelling and hauling things on top of your van or wagon. Are these available in car dealerships or car accessories shops?

I always wonder how to haul things on top of the car without scratching it. There’s always a danger of damaging your paint especially hauling things with sharp edges. Well, thanks for this new invention, it’l make things easier.

The HandiRack is quite cool gadget to add to your car but it’s the loading that worries me because most car roofs are not design for heavy loading. I suggest that car owners must read the load bearing capacity of your vehicle roof before putting on some loads.

At last somebody invented an anti-scratch/damage device for cars when hauling things on top of it. I’m so happy of this new invention, in fact I recently bought a HandiRack and had a fun time hauling two surf boards and a thermo-chest on top of my car.

This would at least prevent those bulky objects to contact the car roof directly. When you put heavy things on your car roof, there’s a huge tendency for your vehicle to have a scratch — but if something would cushion the impact, the scratches are minimized. Simple but great product. Well, it won an award.

I was surprised how strong the HandiRack is and easy to assemble. It can even carry a sack of rice plus cooler full of soda. Great for picnics and long drive.
