$25 Contest - Screen Resolutions

May 4th, 2007 by Al in Site News

thinkgeek.gifI was just checking visitor statistics and came across a pie chart which showed what screen resolutions people use to browse Coolest Gadgets at. As our guess the gadget competition was a bit too easy, I wanted to make the next contest a bit trickier and this statistic seemed an ideal contest candidate.

So to have a chance of winning a $25 Think Geek voucher simply leave a comment with the number of how many different screen resolutions you think have been used to view Coolest Gadgets over the last week.

The winner will be whoever gets closest (or exact), in the case of a draw whoever posted the closest comment first wins.

The contest is open for the next 24 hours, good luck. Oh and only one entry per person for obvious reasons.

Nope it’s purely resolution. I have now checked color depths though and we have 8, with 4 viewers using a 1 bit display, nice!

EEJ Says:

May 4th, 2007 at 10:39 am

This is not a second entry. I’m just curious how you know what screen resolution the viewers are using…

I don’t know much about web page statistics, but can someone point me to a page that entails exactly what information you can gather when someone visits your page/site?

Al Says:

May 4th, 2007 at 10:53 am

We use Google Analytics which lets us gather info such as:
- Operating systems
- Browser and version
- Country
- Color depth
- Screen resolution
- Lanuuages
- Java or Flash installed
and all sorts of fun stuff like that.

It doesn’t gather any personal information which we wouldn’t want anyway.

@ Jamie: sorry!
but I think CG will draw the winner out of all correct (or closest) picks. Am I right or am I right?
Anyway I just picked my “lucky number” - don’t think it is the correct answer, but it should be close by - checked my own website (check it out! need some traffic!) and came to 9 - but that’s no gadget site so to add a couple or more looked good to me!
