Sahara TufTab brings ruggedness to tablet PCs

sahara-tuftab.jpgNotebooks and tablet PCs are pretty sensitive pieces of consumer electronics, but some manufacturers have taken up the task to develop some rugged form factors that will definitely be a boon to those who work in industries that doesn’t involve one to be seated within the office for nine hours straight. Tablet Kiosk is one such company, making available its Sahara TufTab heavy duty touch screen tablet PC that has been built to especially resist what would normally knock a normal notebook/Tablet PC over dead with time, including rain, dust, humidity, extreme temperatures, and vibration.

The Sahara TufTab holds the distinction of being the most rugged touch screen tablet PC available on the market at the moment, and it is powered by an Intel Celeron 1.0GHz processor that is ably aided by 1GB of RAM. The 12.1″ widescreen LCD touch screen is viewable under bright sunlight – something that most notebooks and tablet PCs fail to do. Other features include Bluetooth connectivity, biometric fingerprint scan for greater security, and a wide range of expansion options.

Users can rest the TufTab on a table or prop it using the integrated stand, or even hold it with a hand strap securing it just like the Nintendo DS. Weighing a mere 1.7kg, you won’t suffer from a sore shoulder carrying this around in a bag. Each Sahara TufTab comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Windows XP, although there is an option to include SUSE Linux as well. Prices start from $2,099 upwards, depending on the configuration.
