Larry, I see that your question got unanswered. Just like Terry, I bought this gadget from Fry's which includes the power adapter and and it has been working great over the years. This specific adapter's brand is called Vantec IDE/SATA TO USB ADAPTER

Terry - what was the brand you bought? Finding stuff on the Fry website is tedious at best.

I bought the same thing from Fry's a few months ago. It comes with a power adapter for various types of drives, even has a connector for SATA drives. And, I have used it with MANY different drives to extract data and create backups. Have not ruined a single drive. This is a great piece of equipment for anyone who has extra drives laying around that they need or want to get data from.
