Hello Google Subscribers
February 18th, 2007 by Al in Site News
I was just looking over our stats for how many people follow Coolest Gadgets via our RSS feed, we usually have around 3,000 subscribers but yesterday we were showing 14,394, a whopping 380% increase!
After doing a bit of research (thanks ShoeMoney and FeedBurner) it turns out that Google are now reporting the total number of subscribers using Google Reader and Google Personalized Homepage (not just the number of times they index the feed). So this new figure may actually be true.
I am absolutely amazed (and very happy) that we have this number of subscribers but I still don’t really believe it, so if you’re reading this via our feed please come over to the site and leave a comment (I’ll post out some random gadget to the author of the funniest comment).
The next goal is 15,000 subscribers so if you’re a feed follower haven’t subscribed yet here’s the link
.

February 18th, 2007 at 8:20 am15,000 you say?
Perhaps not today -but
You can count me as one
Cause when I’m on the run
There’s nothing like dreaming
And plotting and scheming
About gadgets that talk
And locate and walk
Some for PC’s
And others for Mac
It’s 8 Sunday morning
And it’s hard to be clever
I’ve run out of rhymes
To make this post better
Al Says:
February 18th, 2007 at 8:31 amLeanne, you made my day
With the rhyme that you did say,
I’m looking for a witty retort
But poetry I’ve never been taught
So a big thanks anyway. ![]()

February 18th, 2007 at 9:19 amGoogle reader users here.
Its an great RSS reader and I am just happy that they are now reporting the actual number of users to publishers now.
Al Says:
February 18th, 2007 at 9:26 amThanks Zac, I still mainly use Blogline but am starting to switch to Google Reader.
Looking at the stats I am amazed at what market share Google Reader has now, yesterday here it was showing 82% which is just phenomenal.

February 18th, 2007 at 12:05 pmI have no idea what a feed is. But, if having coolest-gadgets.com on my google page counts, definitely count me in. I absolutely love seeing the cool, unusual, weird, useful, whatever stuff you have.

February 18th, 2007 at 12:38 pmOut of the scads of available, relatively useless material available on the Google homepage, I’ve chosen your feed to head the top of my middle column! When I’m bummed or bored, I open Google and explore the weird and wacky. It’s going to be hard to top that IPod plug and play from yesterday though….

February 18th, 2007 at 1:36 pmThanks Death (FTF?), Jesse, Steve and James. Good to read you do as you’re told Jonathan (now if you could just write a check out to Al and post it to …). I’m sure we’ll find something to top the OhMiBod Pam, we do seem to come across more girlie gadgets in that realm than we do bloke, err toys.

February 18th, 2007 at 2:42 pm~~~>>>Dances in her chair (thank heavens it swivels and rolls!) singing horribly off key (at the top of her lungs to some stupid jingle tune she heard from who knows) belts out “I”M A FEED READER… I”M A FEEEEEEED REEEEEEEADER… YEAH… I READ FEED…”
Mike Says:
February 18th, 2007 at 3:51 pmYou know those Feedburner buttons that display the current number of subscribers? (see far right corner of TechCrunch for an example) How hard would it be to get one for the sidebar on the site, that be pretty cool to have.
And it’s awesome on the nearly, almost, just a bit away from 15,000!
Al Says:
February 18th, 2007 at 3:59 pmThanks Ray, you’re got a chance (albeit that’s not the funniest comment I’ve ever seen :))
TWILA_ZONED, you mad but thanks for the giggle (crazy chick).
We have one Mike, it’s on the left hand side at the bottom of the Syndicate section.

February 18th, 2007 at 9:00 pmRemember, it’s not the size of your feed that counts…
Al Says:
February 19th, 2007 at 11:03 amIt’s not the size but the quality of the readers, we hit 14,937 yesterday so just another 63 to go until the next land mark.
MJB Says:
February 19th, 2007 at 1:16 pmAt that point you’ll be able to brag to all the girls about your 15,000 reader feed. You go, boy!

February 27th, 2007 at 1:03 pmGoogle feed rocks
I was reading another gadget feed (which linked to yours) and liked yours much better. Plus you don’t update nearly as much as the other ones I’ve read (which believe me is a good thing)
I hated coming back to work (when I have time to read) from the weekend to 300+ items which only 10% were of interest.
Keep giving us “the good stuff” and filtering out all bad ![]()
